Welcome

I am a mom of older children and have noticed that the time has come when I do not have the hustle and bustle of little ones constantly around my feet and life now seems to be a bit of a let down. Well life has changed and now I have more hustle and bustle then ever. I am the Grammy Nanny to my 3 grandsons.
I was savoring the time that was mine and now have to share it with everyone all over again. The growing pains are upon me again and trying to define who I am again. The upside is that I get to cuddle little ones again! I still haven't truly learned to hug myself yet nor to be understanding to my own feelings. Did anyone notice how hard it is to be nice and understanding to yourself? That being said I hope that you will be part of my journey into yet another part of my life.

Christmas Tree lighting in NY

So excited, I love the lighting of the Christmas tree in NY. I will be going to see it on Sunday. I am also hoping that I can finagle a little window shopping or gawking since they are all decorated then as well. So I have been on line looking for a map to create a strategy to see as many as my feet will allow me.
I did get to go on that Sunday. We went in by boat and came home on the train. Wow that was an adventure but that story for another day. The pictures I took aren't the best but I had such a great time. The maps did help out a lot because I probably would have not ventured all the way to Lexington Ave and 59th. Those were my first favorite windows and where I took most of the pictures.

The tree was magnificent. We didn't get a picture of us in front of the tree like the last time we went.

This whole column is covered in white painted shoes.

Her gown is created with Jelly Belly Beans.

Love the over sized string of lights.

I liked this Mom's blog about going - http://mommypoppins.com/newyorkcitykids/holiday-windows-2011-department-store-macys-bergdorf-saks-barneys

Little Christmas Elves

A cute elf that I would like to makeI so want to make these little elves. I like the way Margot Potter made them but I love the retro look of the original ones. But of course they are from the 1960 McCall's Christmas magazine.

I am not sure that I am going to do well this Christmas. I really thought I could handle it but the closer that we get to December the worse I feel. I want to do so much, fun things, like the dress I would like to make. There are other things that I have goals to make but I just have to get my resolve to make them. With out fear.

Halloween fun

I had a good time making Halloween costumes. I made an Annie dress, a race car driver suit, Bowser, and princess peach upcycle. Oh yes, I quickly put together a red riding hood outfit from my stuff and made the red cape from fleece and some fabulous print lining fabric. I also put my fairy dress together enough to wear for a short time while driving the Primary kids home in the bus. haha
My little race car driver, my grandson.
I love this pic

Used glitter dimensional paint and added the details on the bottom of the dress

Miss Tanya as red riding hood, she had a blue skirt, gathered muslin shirt and a fitted vest. Oh yes and a little basket.

the petticoat for under the fairy costume. I love it. It fells so feminine.
I am so glad that I was able to make all of the costumes. I didn't finish completely on my time line but I did get them to everyone before Halloween and before the little parties.

beautiful red with velvet flocked floral

That is the fabric that I am going to create a real Christmas dress from. It is so beautiful. I love the crispness of the fabric without it being stiff.

Doesn't that look fabulous. I want to start with the petticoat first!
These are the fabrics for the petticoat. Red tulle with black lace and plain old black lining fabric. I am going to make a gathered tiered red netting on the black lining. The top layer will have the beautiful black lace. I am hoping that I can figure out how to make the edge peak out from under the dress.

I love the way this looks, thinking about adding bias binding to the bottom of the red tulle.
Oh yes, and the pattern. A Vintage Vogue pattern with a dropped waist. I am hoping it will give me a nice shape. I am going to make the shorter version and probably shorten it further to my knee. I am rather short. My goal is to also make the skirt pleated rather then gathered. I think it would look good.
